While working on the visual reconstruction

 of the Vithala Temple complex, Natampally and metallurgists at the site concluded that the original location of the stone plays a role in the sound of the pillars. "The granite used [for the pillars] comes from different local quarries, so you have different stones that produce different sounds." She also believes that the pillars' shape, size and positioning play a part in determining the sounds they produce.
